Expiration of cache

Expiration of cache was created by msottini
I have set cache lifetime to 43200 (max. 30 days of memcached) and changed to the same value system Cache Time setting. I have forced crawling and monitored page cached. The cached space was 1,5 GB for more than 6.500 pages. The total space for memcached is 3 GB. However, after a few hours, the cached are reported to be (from system clearcache feature) a little more than 500 for 100MB of used space. How is it possible? Sytem monitoring, still does not show a reduction of cache space used. How is this explained? Thanks
