alternate texts for the images in the gallery

Hello,

my webpage should be convenient for seeing people, but for blind people as well.

is it possible to give each picture in a gallery an alternate text (alt-tag), that is shown in a text-only-browser?

i tested my webpage with the textbased browser lynx to see if it is barrie-free.

blind people should see something like "this picture shows ...."

I tried the iptc-caption, but they are not shown in lynx.
