Image optimization and convertion questions

Hi Viktor, I have a few questions about Easy Image Resizer, specifically regarding converting images to .webp.
I ran a test: I started the conversion, but after a couple of hours it still wasn’t finished, and I had to shut down the computer. What happens if the conversion isn’t complete and I start it over?
If I understand correctly, converting to .webp doesn’t mean the images in the articles are automatically replaced—that has to be done manually, right?
Finally, whether optimizing or converting to WebP, new files are created in the various folders, which means that in photo galleries using the old {gallery}folder/folder{/gallery} tag, the images are displayed twice. Is there a way to avoid this?
