With this hack you can set the permission which user group can write entries in the forum. It is tested with the latest version of Kunena 1.7.1 and Joomla! 1.7 (don't use it in Joomla! 1.5).
I've modified the file post.php (components/com_kunena/funcs/post.php).
The allowed user groups are to entered directly in the file:
// Enter here all groups which are allowed to write an entry - in my case I need Subscriber and of course Super Users
$allowed_user_groups = array('Subscriber', 'Super Users');
Settings for guests are not affected, only registered users are checked.
With this hack you can show the forum for all visitors and limit the rights to write entries to specific groups.
This small hack doesn't check the categories settings, it works globally. You can of course adjust the language string to make the error message clearer.
And don't forget: it's a hack and can be overwritten if you update the component.
